SŌAN 草庵 | A Remote Mountain Hermitage with Shakuhachi for Zazen, Slow Breathing and Deep Rest SŌAN (草庵) is a small thatched hermitage, built for a life with very little in it. Before sunrise, an elderly monk sits beneath the low roof of a hut on the mountain plateau. His sandals are beside the step. A water flask rests against the wall. Beyond the clearing, silver grass moves with the cold air and the footpath disappears toward the distant ridges. The music is as spare as the room behind him. Shakuhachi carries most of the piece, sometimes leaving long spaces before the next phrase arrives. Koto appears only when another note is needed. SŌAN is intended for zazen, slow breathing, quiet yoga, reflective reading, evening rest, or the final part of the day before sleep. It also works when you simply want fewer sounds around you. You will hear: • Low, airy shakuhachi • Sparse koto notes • A very light ambient foundation • Wind moving through the highland grass • Faint natural sounds from the wooden hermitage There is no need to fill every silence.
