Episode 28 features John Arroyo Sr., co-founder of The Skills Center, for a wide-ranging conversation about basketball, youth development, fatherhood, coaching, and legacy.
John shares his journey from growing up in a military family and playing at Eisenhower High School in Oklahoma, to walking on at Cameron University and eventually earning a scholarship.
He also talks about becoming a probation officer, using basketball to help young people, and how The Skills Center grew from an idea into an organization impacting thousands of kids.
The conversation also gets personal as John explains the emotional story behind the Naira program, his thoughts on grassroots basketball and player movement, what he has learned coaching his son John Arroyo Jr., and how one moment with his daughter Janae taught him that every child has to be coached differently.
At the center of it all is a message John repeats throughout the episode: basketball is the tool, but developing people is the real goal.
