Turn Simple Scribbles Into Mixed Media Abstract Art | Intuitive Sketchbook Practice 🎨

What happens when you begin with nothing more than a few scribbles and let mixed media, color, music, and intuition take it from there? 🎨 In this relaxing mixed media sketchbook practice, I’m starting with spontaneous scribbles and developing two abstract paintings side by side, allowing each mark, color, texture, and new layer to influence what comes next. There’s no predetermined composition and no pressure to create a perfect result. Instead, we’ll explore what happens when we respond, reinterpret, experiment, and trust the creative process. Using acrylic paint, tempera paint sticks, sgraffito, expressive mark-making, layering, texture, and other mixed media techniques, I gradually transform those simple beginning marks into richly layered abstract paintings. As the session unfolds, the two pieces begin influencing one another and developing through a shared visual dialogue. For me, sessions like this are about so much more than finishing a painting. Mixed media art practice gives us permission to explore. It stretches our creativity, strengthens our artistic instincts, encourages experimentation, and provides an amazing outlet for self-expression.
