The Kevin Paul Show | Ep. 193 From George Orwell’s 1984 and the invention of Newspeak to the language we increasingly encounter around sex, gender and identity, words do more than communicate ideas. They determine the categories through which we describe the world around us. When mother and father become "parents and carers," when biological sex and gender identity are treated as interchangeable, and when new terminology changes how familiar categories are understood, the argument is no longer simply about politeness or inclusion. It becomes a deeper argument about language, meaning and whether words should describe reality or reshape the way we perceive it. Dorothy opens the door to that larger discussion. This final part looks at the new language of gender, the contradictions it can produce, and why Orwell’s warnings about language remain so compelling nearly eighty years after 1984 was published.
