The Royal Enfield Goan 350 has 'Bobber' aesthetics, but definitely has 'Cruiser' DNA despite its modest displacement. I am aware of criticisms about its weight (due to authentic metal construction) being a negative. Maybe so for commuting, but thankfully its weight provides enough stabilising effect around the ‘open roads’ where I ride - where B-train trucks slam bikes with sudden wind blasts in their wake. I wouldn't want the Goan Classic 350 any other way.
Just went for a short “2-wheel therapy” ride session this time - to simply enjoy and unwind, also to get more familiar with what the Goan 350 does best.
Just a little over 2000 kms on the odometer now, the Goan 350 is finally sufficiently ‘run-in’ (broken-in?) for me to consider good enough to ride at 100 kph for prolonged periods. Being an over-square engine, this 350cc engine will continue to loosen up nicely and perform better later on… provided the running-in period is done gradually. With no winds on the flats, the bike can already ease up to 115 kph but it’s still way too early for that. Some sections of our State Highways have 110 kph speed limits, so the Goan should be able to handle that when the time comes. However, the Goan 350 will always be limited for highway overtaking… since it was never intended for that.
I chose to go Morrinsville for breakfast to try out a Cafe I had just discovered on my nav map. I wasn't disappointed. Of course, I can't go to Morrinsville without somehow featuring the 'Herd of Cows' street art. It was one of those 'mental-heath enhancement days' and so doing a ‘cow pilgrimage’ to view them all was never part of the plan. But I do have some pics in my album, taken back in 2021 so I featured those for a mini roll-call at the end.
Also installed my phone on a motorbike for the first time ever. Every time I tried to look at the nav GPS map, my eyes kept tracking to the bar-end mirror! Didn’t know eyes had ‘muscle memory’ too. First time to use the USB charger cable. Phone was fully charged by the time I was having coffee, nice!
