Run a real MySQL database on your machine without ever installing MySQL. That's what Docker actually gives you, and in this video we do it step by step.
This is the hands-on part. We install Docker Desktop on both Mac and Windows, then learn every core Docker command by running a real database — pulling the image, configuring it, connecting to it, breaking it on purpose, and fixing it.
Every command is shown for Mac and for Windows PowerShell, so you can follow along on either one.
What you'll learn
Install Docker Desktop on Mac and on Windows (including WSL 2 and virtualization)
Pull an image, run a container, and read what Docker is telling you
Why a container exits immediately — and how environment variables fix it
How to read any image's Docker Hub page and find what it needs
Run real SQL inside a container with docker exec
Port mapping: why "it's running but I can't connect" happens, and the one flag that fixes it
Run two different MySQL versions side by side without any conflict
Stop, start, remove and clean up — why a stopped container is not a deleted one
Volumes: lose your data once, then make it survive forever
This is Part 2 of a 3-part Docker series. Part 1 covers why Docker exists and how containers really work. Part 3 packages your own Spring Boot app into an image.
Hit a different error than the one on screen? Paste it in the comments — I read all of them and these usually become future videos.
If this helped, subscribe for Part 3.
