Bach turns the Baroque dance suite into short, graceful, and endlessly varied miniatures, each with a character of its own. Every suite is built around four classic dances: the flowing allemande, the lively courante, the deeply expressive sarabande, and the sparkling gigue. In between come lighter movements such as menuets, gavottes, bourrées, and airs, adding wit and a touch of dance floor charm.
