Why This Place Brought Me to My Knees

Visiting Fátima, Portugal was one of those experiences I wasn’t fully prepared for. Seeing people make their way toward the sanctuary on their knees—some in prayer, some fulfilling promises, and others carrying intentions only they and God know—stopped me in my tracks. Whatever your faith or beliefs, there is something incredibly moving about witnessing that level of devotion. Travel after 50 has become about more than seeing beautiful places for me. It’s about experiencing the history, culture, traditions, and moments that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
