HMMWV Details and Ideas Walk Around

This is a 1986 HMMWV that I have owned since 1999. One of the main objectives of the HMMWV design was ample ground clearance while maintaining a reasonable overall height. The 16” GC was achieved by recessing the entire frame and center driveline up into the body. Using geared hubs allowed the half shafts to be positioned higher for ground clearance and reduced CV angle. At the time of video posting, this HMMWV has accumulated 18K miles since 1999 or just under 700 miles/yr. It has been very reliable and only recently needed an injector pump rebuild from hdiesel.com and a bypass start box replacement acquired from uscindustry.com. I change oil, grease, and check hubs/diffs every 1,400 miles/2 years. I suggest changing glow plugs at this interval as they are easy to change and are reasonably priced. This is a cheap way to avoid swollen plugs. Use Wellman glow plugs from blackdogcustoms.com. Additions and details to this vehicle include; Military items: Radial tires with 12 bolt rims. Vehicle came with 6 bolt rims and bias-ply tires. The radials are taller thus improving the "gearing" for road use.
