Join us for a drive around La Carrasca, a small traditional village belonging to the municipality of Martos in Jaén province, Andalucía. La Carrasca is set among the beautiful rolling countryside and olive groves of the province of Jaén, an area famous for its olive oil production. The village sits at around 590 metres above sea level and has a peaceful, rural atmosphere, making it a lovely place to discover away from the larger tourist destinations. In this video, we'll take a drive through the village, looking at the streets, houses and surrounding countryside and giving you a feel for what everyday life is like in this part of inland Andalucía. 📍 A little history La Carrasca has its origins in the old Cortijo de La Carrasquilla, which was associated with the Encomienda de Víboras. The village also has an interesting connection with the history of the local workers' movement, with the Casa del Pueblo and La Honradez de Víboras being established here in 1905. The village celebrates its traditional Fiestas de la Santa Cruz in early May, a tradition that dates back to 1896. There is also the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, adding to the character of this small community. 🌳 Exploring the surrounding area La Carrasca is located in a particularly scenic part of the Martos municipality. Nearby are Las Casillas and the Víboras Reservoir, with the surrounding countryside offering opportunities for walking, cycling and enjoying the olive groves and mountain scenery. The village is connected by local roads towards Martos and Las Casillas, including the JA-3306 between Martos and La Carrasca.
