In this video, you’ll learn two of the most important functional interfaces in Java 8: Consumer and Supplier from the java.util.function package.
We explain what each interface is for, their single abstract methods, how to use them with lambda expressions, and where they are commonly used in real Java code and interviews.
What you’ll learn
Quick recap: what is a functional interface in Java 8
Consumer:
Purpose: perform an action on a value and return nothing (side-effect)
Functional method: void accept(T t)
Default method: andThen for chaining consumers
Common use cases: printing, logging, saving to DB, updating collections, forEach, peek in streams
Supplier:
Purpose: supply or generate a value without taking any input
Functional method: T get()
Common use cases: lazy initialization, factory methods, generating test data, orElseGet in Optional, deferred computation
How to implement both interfaces using:
Anonymous inner class
Lambda expressions (recommended)
