Over twenty years ago, I met a musician named Kiki in an online Christian chatroom. We talked about music, studios, broadcasting — all the creative dreams people share. One day she sent me a very rough demo of a song she was writing called “The Stand.” It was just her playing guitar and singing a melody over mostly complete lyrics, captured through an old tape recorder, but even in that fragile recording her message was unmistakable: a longing to hold onto truth, identity, and hope in a world that kept trying to reshape her. Life moved quickly for her and we lost touch. I don’t know if she ever had the chance to finish the song. I discovered years later that she had passed away in 2011, leaving only that faint recording behind, tucked away in an archived folder — a melody reaching for something she never got to complete. This version is built from what she shared: her melody, her words, and the direction her heart was already moving. Most lines were gently reconstructed from the faint audio of her demo, others finished in the spirit of what she was trying to say. It isn’t a rewrite — just a way to let her voice stand once more, and to carry forward the message she began all those years ago.
