Ireland's main river, the Shannon, is over 350 km long, 220 km of which are navigable. Since the river has numerous large and smaller lakes and side arms, you can travel more than 1000 kilometers by boat, ideal for a houseboat holiday.
There are three areas to drive on: Lower Shannon, Upper Shannon and Shannon Erne. We drove the upper Shannon from Carrick-on-Shannon with the Lough Ree to Athlone and back in a week.
