Mount Rainier, Washington, 4,392 metres above sea level, is the most threatening volcano in the Cascades — not because it erupts often, but because about 80,000 people live, work, and go to school in the valleys its lahars can reach. This what-if walks the lahar scenario valley by valley: Orting, Puyallup, and Sumner, the warning system built for minutes, not hours, and the three signals scientists watch for before any eruption. Mount Rainier is NOT erupting. The USGS lists the volcano at NORMAL alert status and GREEN aviation code, and its most recent monitoring update reports normal background activity. Nothing in this video is a prediction of an eruption.
