FASTEST SINKING CITY IN THE WORLD, JAKARTA INDONESIA

I traveled from Padang to Jakarta, a city known as one of the fastest sinking capitals in the world. After arriving, I explored different parts of the city including Baywalk Mall and North Jakarta, the area most affected by land subsidence and rising sea levels. 🔎 In this video, I explain in detail why Jakarta is sinking: Over-extraction of groundwater: Jakarta relies heavily on underground water due to lack of piped supply. This causes the land to collapse gradually. Rapid urbanization & heavy infrastructure: The growing population and massive construction projects put extra pressure on soft soil layers. Rising sea levels: Jakarta lies on the coast of the Java Sea, making it vulnerable to climate change and global warming. Poor drainage & flooding: With 13 rivers running through Jakarta, heavy rainfall often leads to flooding, worsening the sinking problem. 📊 Some shocking facts I share in this video: Jakarta is sinking by 5 to 10 centimeters every year in certain parts. North Jakarta has already sunk more than 2.5 meters in the past decade. By 2050, one-third of Jakarta could be completely underwater if no major steps are taken. he government is investing in a giant sea wall project and other flood prevention systems, but experts say these may not be enough. 🏛️ Because of this crisis, Indonesia has already decided to move its capital city from Jakarta to a new planned city called Nusantara, located in Borneo. This massive relocation is expected to begin in the coming years, aiming to reduce pressure on Jakarta and build a more sustainable capital for the future.
