Pramukh Swami Maharaj Born as Shantilal Patel on December 7, 1921, Pramukh Swami Maharaj was ordained as Shastri Narayanswarupdas. Recognized as the fifth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, he became the President of BAPS in 1950. In 1971, he succeeded Yogiji Maharaj as the spiritual leader of BAPS, serving until his passing on August 13, 2016. Mahant Swami Maharaj Born as Vinubhai Patel on September 13, 1933, Mahant Swami Maharaj is the sixth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. Initiated as a swami in 1961 by Yogiji Maharaj, he was designated as the spiritual and administrative successor to Pramukh Swami Maharaj in 2012, assuming the role in 2016 after Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s passing.
