Ancestry Unpacked 2026 Tips 12 Working Side by Side

Working between Ancestry and other websites can mean constantly switching backwards and forwards between tabs. In this Ancestry Unpacked Tip, Fiona Brooker shares a handy Google Chrome feature that can make that process much easier. Using Chrome’s Split View, Fiona demonstrates how to display an Ancestry family tree alongside an outside source, using a Papers Past newspaper article as an example. This makes it easier to transfer information into your tree, add facts and record source details without continually changing tabs. You’ll also see how to: • Open two browser tabs side by side • Adjust how much space each tab uses • Reverse the position of the two tabs • Stack tabs vertically when working with wider documents • Use Split View when transcribing or writing up your research • Quickly return the pages to separate browser tabs It’s a simple browser feature that can make working between Ancestry and other family history sources much more efficient.
