VALSE FANTAISIE. (Glinka / Balanchine)

George Balanchine's 2nd version of this Glinka music differed from his 1st version in several ways. The earlier version was for one man and three women, and costumed in a more 19th century Imperial Russian Ballet manner. This 1967 version was originally part of a 4-movement ballet entitled "Glinkiana" and included Ginka's Polka, Jota Arogoneza, and Divertimento Brillante. Only this Valse Fantaisie has survived. In it's premiere it was danced by John Clifford and Mimi Paul. In this 1973 filming it is danced by Clifford and Sara Leland.
