DJ BP Lar presents Music Makes Friends. ep Rachael Hunter X BP Lar. Rachael Hunter is a painter living and working in Madison, Wisconsin. Growing up in Minnesota as an only child, she spent most of her time playing make-believe in the woods. Now she spends most of her time playing with paints in her studio. She prefers to paint in whatever style suits each individual painting’s needs, ranging from what could be mistaken for realism to abstract fantasy. A painting is where her emotions, memories, and relationships turn into something she can look at and try to understand. Rachael works primarily with oil, acrylic, and Flashe paints on alternative surfaces. Wood planks found on the side of the road are intuitively carved into blobs and bedsheets sourced from friends, second-hand stores, or even her own bed become her canvas. In addition to the artists around her, the legacy of Midwestern magical realism informs what she paints and how. Like these artists, Rachael uses her paintings to traverse an increasingly horrifying reality.
