“The coffee is very hot” and “The coffee is too hot” describe the same cup, yet only one of them keeps your tongue safe. Otto learned the difference at a market coffee counter, after one confident mouthful and three sore days. Ada and Otto give “too” five jobs and ask whether it is simply a louder “very”. You will practise “too hot to drink”, “old enough to vote”, “too heavy for me to lift”, “isn’t too late to call”, “too smart not to notice”, “far too small”, “much too expensive”, “a bit too salty”, “too many cups, too much coffee” and “too good to be true”. The rule to keep: very counts, too judges. Pick one sentence with “too” and write it in the comments. And if the word has ever cost you a tongue, a taxi or a budget, Ada and Otto would like to hear about it. 00:00 Same Cup, Two Warnings 01:37 Too Hot to Eat 04:10 Too Young, Old Enough 05:44 The Extra “It” Mistake 07:57 One “Not” Moves the Wall 10:11 Far Too, Much Too, a Bit Too 11:32 Is “Too Much Hot” Right? 13:22 “You’re Too Kind” 14:32 Why “Too” Is a Verdict 18:32 Very Counts, Too Judges #LearnEnglish #EnglishGrammar #TooVsVery #BritishEnglish
