National Shrine of St Maximillian Kolbe at Marytown, Libertyville IL, USA

The National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe at Marytown in Libertyville, Illinois, is a peaceful 15-acre sanctuary dedicated to prayer, history, and reflection. Known for its stunning chapel with vibrant mosaics and 24-hour prayer, the shrine also features a powerful Holocaust museum and beautiful, grassy outdoor gardens with a reflective walking path. This sacred space honors Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Polish Catholic priest who courageously volunteered to die in place of a stranger at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. Pope John Paul II later declared him a saint and a "Martyr of Charity" for showing the ultimate expression of love and sacrifice.
