RADIO AT 75 | 1920–1995 75 Years of Radio History — Narrated by Casey Kasem A remarkable 50-minute journey through 75 years of American radio, told through the actual sounds, voices, broadcasts, personalities, and defining moments that shaped an industry. Originally presented by Radio Ink magazine and Broadcast Programming as part of radio's 75th anniversary celebration, Radio at 75 was distributed on a commemorative CD to subscribers. But there's a good chance many of the people who devoted their careers to radio never heard it. In those days, industry magazines frequently arrived on the general manager's desk. Often, the accompanying commemorative CD stayed there, too. Many air personalities, program directors, engineers, sales professionals, and other station employees never had an opportunity to experience this extraordinary production. The story behind the production is almost as remarkable as the recording itself. Bruce Buchanan, then an editor and writer for Radio Ink, directed and researched this ambitious project. Bruce devoted hundreds of hours to tracking down historical recordings, contacting radio colleagues, traveling, and searching library archives to assemble an authentic audio history of broadcasting. And then there was the question of who should narrate it. American Top 40 host and legendary radio personality Casey Kasem ultimately became the voice of this historic presentation, providing its memorable opening and closing narration. The result is a fascinating audio time capsule spanning 1920–1995, capturing radio's extraordinary evolution through the sounds of the medium itself. Whether you spent your career behind a microphone, in programming, sales, engineering, management, or simply grew up loving radio, this is a presentation worth hearing. Turn up the volume, settle in, and enjoy 75 years of radio history.
