15 OFF-GRID Florida Towns Where You Can Buy Land for Almost Nothing In Florida you can still buy land for less than a used car. Some lots sell for a few thousand dollars, some for even less. But almost every cheap lot comes with a story about why it’s cheap. This countdown visits 15 of Florida’s off-grid and forgotten subdivisions. From the 1950s through the 1970s, land companies sold them by mail, on installment plans, to buyers across the North and Canada. Many of those buyers never saw their lots. Some lots turned out to be swamp, some had no road, and some never got water, sewer or power. Decades later, the grids are still there: paved streets leading nowhere, empty lots still paying taxes, and a few people building lives off the grid where the developers’ promises ran out. We look at what each place was sold as, what actually happened, and what the land costs and lacks today. Then we ask the bigger question: if the land is this cheap, why did almost nobody end up living on it? Lot prices are taken from current listings and change often. Always check zoning, wetlands, road access, water and septic rules with the county before you buy. ⏱️ Time Stamps: 0:00 Why Florida land is so cheap 0:58 The question 2:31 #15 Citrus Springs 4:46 #14 Port Charlotte 7:08 #13 Sun ‘n Lake of Sebring 9:08 #12 Paisley & the Ocala National Forest 11:04 #11 Florahome 12:51 #10 Jasper 14:57 #9 Sunny Hills 17:03 #8 Williston Highlands 18:55 Halfway recap 19:46 #7 Indian Lake Estates 22:06 #6 Rainbow Lakes Estates 24:29 #5 Lehigh Acres 26:40 #4 Interlachen Lakes Estates 28:43 #3 Montura Ranch Estates 31:00 #2 River Ranch 33:10 #1 Golden Gate Estates & the Picayune Strand 35:50 What it all means 💬 Do you own a lot in one of these places, or did someone in your family buy one sight unseen?
