As Queen Rhea gives birth to their immortal children—Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon—Cronus snatches each infant and swallows them into his immortal belly. Consumed with agonizing sorrow, Rhea turns to Primordial Earth Mother Gaia for counsel. Following Gaia's prophecy, Rhea flees across the Aegean Sea in the dead of night to the sacred island of Crete. Deep within the mystical Dictaean Cave of Mount Ida, Rhea gives birth to Zeus, the child of thunder. Nurtured on the divine milk of the sacred goat Amalthea and shielded by the deafening shield-clashes of the Kouretes warriors to mask his infant cries, young Zeus is hidden from his father's eyes. Rhea returns to Mount Othrys and presents a great primordial stone wrapped in swaddling silk to Cronus.
