Walter Becker was the co-founder of Steely Dan. "Josie" was written by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and released on their 1977 album "Aja". The solo was played by Walter Becker and is a true lesson is tastefulness. Becker mixes together jazzy and bluesy ideas into a pop-rock context. While his lines are mostly based out of the E Dorian mode, Becker also borrows the D# from the E Melodic Minor Scale, giving it a true jazzy/fusion flavor.
