The Books Reading Club (TBRC) Satishchandra Joshi possesses a deep academic grounding in languages. He earned a B.A. (First Class) in Sanskrit, Gujarati, and English, and an M.A. (First Class) specializing in Alamkara Shastra and Linguistics from the University of Bombay. Additionally, he studied Sanskrit at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Sanskrit Pathshala. Notably, he achieved the Rashtrabhasha Ratna and Hindi Sahitya Ratna qualifications before turning 18. He began his professional career in 1973 with the Indian Overseas Bank as a Probationary Officer, retiring in 2010 as an Assistant General Manager. Since his retirement, he has devoted himself to the study and translation of Sanskrit and Vedanta literature. His scholarly contributions include translating the Sixth Canto of Magha’s Shishupalavadha with classical commentaries, as well as the Sanskrit writings of Govardhanram Tripathi. A dedicated educator, he has served as visiting faculty teaching Hindi at banks, public sector institutions, and the Directorate of Languages, Government of Gujarat. His passion for teaching began early, having taught at a voluntary Hindi Language and Literature Institute while still a college student. We are honored to have him share his insights on Hindu scriptures and the Sanskrit language with us today.
