12 Medieval Coffins Permanently Sealed After What Archeologists Found Inside The workers did not expect to find anything. They were digging beneath a car park in central Bordeaux, France, in the spring of two thousand nineteen, clearing ground for a routine urban development project. Then a shovel struck stone at an unexpected depth. The stone was not rubble. It was shaped, deliberate, and sealed. Archaeologists from the Institut National de Recherches Archéologiques Préventives were called to the site within hours, and what they found stopped the project entirely.
