Magic Mountain - (2026) - Magic Mountain is a 16 month mega project that began around January of 2025. The concept is a psychospiritual journey exploring the realms described by Carl Jung as 'The Mountain'.
'In Jungian psychology, the mountain is a powerful, recurring archetype symbolising the Self, spiritual elevation, and the process of individuation. It represents the steep, often solitary path to higher consciousness, where the individual rises above chaotic, earthly conflicts to gain a broader, wiser perspective.'
'The Mountaintop Perspective: One of Jung’s most famous quotes describes how reaching higher mental states allows you to look down on emotional conflicts as if they were 'a storm in the valley'. When observed from above, the storm is still real, but you are no longer trapped inside it. This perfectly outlines his concept of rising above the ego to achieve objective consciousness.'
I have not studied Jung or read any of his books. This information came to me psycho-spiritually / intuitively after being a psychology patient for more than 20 years whilst also having long term interests in spiritual healing such as dreamwork, shamanism and a personal interest in Mayan Wisdom alongside cultural heritage and mystical experiences. I then decided to research the psychology of 'The Mountain' and that's when I discovered yet another mirror - Carl Jung explaining exactly what sonic journey I was about to embark upon. I figured I probably absorbed this information subconsciously through my psychologist!
The album fuses together influences from Mayan Wisdom, exploring the 20 Tribes, through what I have studied over a number of years. It also merges with Indigenous influences from Native American Tribes, during the creation process I was reading Native American Medicine books. There are also influences from Indian Mantras, something I have found to be hypnotic and enjoy chanting on a regular basis. I've also added my own spin of 'Native-folk' something that resonates with me in an earthly realm, of stripping everything away, without the home, clothes, money and luxuries I am just a 'native', a female of the land making music with whatever resources I can because the creativity, even if momentarily, brings me some joy.
Previously, I have encountered some difficulty in defining my sound art to genres, so these days I like to create my own, such as psycho-spiritual music and native-folk, that's how I would define 'Magic Mountain'. Not necessarily as 'music' but perhaps as a doorway to enhanced creativity and imagination. I'm not sure who would listen to my songs or in what environment, but I would suggest getting artsy, doing something creative, writing, painting, knitting and allowing the sounds to work its magic through the realms of the abstract mind. I hope it helps to inspire vivid imagination, ideas, colours, dreams and possibly a synaesthetic or a mild and pleasantly sober psychedelic experience.
In the corner of my room lives a medium sized cardboard box with percussion sourced from various places, a lot of South American sourced percussion and 'sound healing' tools, a ukulele and a guitar, a djembe and buffalo drum (vegan skin), a 'wizards flute' as I like to call it, it produces overtones. All of these organic sounds are what helped me to produce Magic Mountain. Thanks to the 3 collaborators who contributed their creativity and time on this epic journey of creation - Chris, Envis and Sinclar!
