Luca Maniaci - AREPO [LMLTD005]

The SATOR Square is an ancient Latin inscription composed by 5 words of 5 letters each: SATOR, AREPO, TENET, OPERA, ROTAS. It's a two-dimensional palindrome that remains identical whether read from left to right, right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top. A rough translation of it would be "The sower AREPO holds the wheels with his work", which metaphorically means "The one who governs the order of the Cosmos". The SATOR Square represents a hidden cross and has been a symbol of recognition for persecuted early Christians. The central letters of the word TENET forms a perfect cross (horizontal and vertical). Furthermore, by anagramming all 25 letters of the Square, it's possible to create the phrase "PATER NOSTER" (Our Father) twice, with the letters A and O (Alpha and Omega - The Beginning and the End) added. In ancient times, this geometric and symmetrical structure was used as a protective formula against evil spirits and adversity, engraved on amulets, house walls, and church thresholds across Europe (such as in Pompeii, Rome, and Siena). I've always been fascinated by the mysteries of the SATOR Square, which is why I decided to compose 5 tracks inspired by a common but abstract idea, developed in 5 different ways. Different, somehow also similar, but still deeply connected to each other.
