I deleted almost everything from my phone: Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, games. I thought that was the solution. And honestly, deleting them was a good decision. But I didn't realize that removing the apps wouldn't remove my need for stimulation. After spending hours every day watching short videos, playing games, and constantly looking for something new, I couldn't just delete everything and suddenly sit down to work for 50 minutes. It was just too boring. My brain kept looking for something more interesting. And if I forced myself too much, I would eventually find something else to do, or even convince myself to download the apps again. So instead of going straight from high stimulation to serious studying, I started trying to get used to being bored again. When I sit down for a 50-minute session, I spend the first 5–10 minutes doing nothing. I close my eyes, look at the ceiling, or just sit there and let my mind wander. Then I do something simple for 10–15 minutes. I might clean my desk, write down the random thoughts in my head, practice writing, or open a book and find an interesting chapter. Nothing exciting, just something easy enough to start. After that, I choose one small part of the work I actually need to do and give it 15–20 minutes. I try to finish that one thing. When I'm done, I put a little check mark on paper. It sounds very simple, but finishing something gives me a small sense of progress, and that makes it easier to keep going. Then I take a short break until the 50 minutes are up. I walk outside, wash my face, look at the trees, make a drink, and then come back for another 50-minute session. By this point, my mind usually feels much calmer, and the difficult things that seemed impossible when I first sat down don't feel quite as difficult anymore. I'm not saying this will magically fix your focus. It didn't fix mine either. But I realized that deleting distracting apps is only the first step. If your brain has been used to constant stimulation for a long time, you also need to give yourself some time to get comfortable with a quieter environment again. For me, the goal isn't to force myself to focus for hours. It's to slowly become someone who doesn't need constant stimulation just to sit down and start. Sometimes, before you can focus on something difficult, you first have to learn how to be bored. See you soon.❤️ Let's keep going.
