MIT Winter Dusk: Historic Lobbies to Snowy Killian Court

The limestone halls hold a deep, quiet warmth just as the winter dusk settles over Cambridge. Under the high coffered ceilings, my footsteps join the subdued echoes of a few stragglers heading into the Infinite Corridor. The grand entrance rotundas of Building 10 and Lobby 7 are mostly empty now, their suspended bronze lanterns casting a soft glow over the memorial inscriptions carved into the stone walls. Through the monumental floor-to-ceiling windows, the bare trees and snow-dusted grounds wait in the fading light. I walk toward the heavy double doors, leaving the stately, heated refuge of the interior behind. The freezing evening air hits immediately on the pillared portico.
