Singapore Airlines flight SQ31 - Airbus A350-900XWB from San Francisco (SFO) to Singapore (SIN)

After 1 year, we found ourselves on Singapore Airlines again to India this time travelling for Navaratri, travelling to Kolkata for Durga Puja. Similar like most trips, my father left a couple of days ago and I left with my mom a few days later. Little did we know we would get a familiar bird again 9V-SJE which we both flew back in December 2022 for the Christmas holiday on the night flight SQ33 from San Francisco to Singapore except this time it was SQ31. We would have taken Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong/Delhi, but we would lose on sleep and missed one of the main days of the puja. Emirates would have been better but due to the Iran war, a lot of unnecessary risks after what my mother went through back in February 2026 getting stuck in Dubai. Since March 2026, Singapore Airlines has been using the A-gates at San Francisco International Airport instead of the usual G-gates and unlike the times we have travelled, there was a massive ground delay because of congestion on the ground causing a delay to take off. Of all the times we have travelled from the G-gates even on Singapore Airlines this type of ground delay was unheard of (or at least not experienced by myself). While we departed on time, we took off 1 hour late at 1:08PM causing a 1 hour delay arrival at Singapore Changi at 8:15PM, making us nervous throughout the flight if we would miss our SQ516 connection to Kolkata or hoped that they would hold the flight because of our luggages - The outcome worked in our favor and we made it. Despite the short comings, Singapore Airlines did a fabulous job of communicating the delay, generally good service and food but cramped seats plus a noticeable improvement on the entertainment system. Wifi was pretty good but the improvement is that they should have Starlink for us to stream and get less bored.
