The Winneba Masquerade Festival, also known as the Fancy Dress Festival or Kakamotobi, is an annual event held every January 1st in Winneba, Central Region, Ghana. It is a vibrant cultural celebration to mark the beginning of a new year. The main events and competition typically take place at Advance Park, Winneba. Parades occur throughout the streets of Winneba from Christmas through New Year's Day. Masquerade Competition: Five main groups of masqueraders—Nobles No. 1, Egyaa No. 2, Tumus No. 3, Red Cross No. 4, and Royals—compete for supremacy in categories such as costume design, marching, and various dance forms like slow dance, highlife, and speed dance. The festival is a massive display of creativity in costume design and choreography, attracting thousands of attendees, including locals and international visitors.
