Pupils Visit Short's Dairy Farm, Co. Wicklow | National Dairy Council School Farm Visits 2026

Primary school pupils from Wicklow, Dublin, and Wexford visited Tom and Geraldine Short’s dairy farm in Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow as part of the EU School Milk Scheme, led by the National Dairy Council (NDC). Students took part in interactive learning stations, covering grass growth, animal welfare, nutrition, and how milk is produced from grass to glass. The visit is part of a national programme bringing pupils onto working dairy farms to help them better understand where their food comes from, following NDC research showing that over half of children have never seen a cow being milked.
