The city of Wheeling in West Virginia has a storied past. It became one of the wealthiest cities in the United States by the late19th and early 20th centuries with booming industries such as steel, glass, tobacco, and manufacturing. After the decline of large industries, the Great Depression and the Second World War, the city lost a lot of its population and wealth, and the effects of this period are still evident today.
I spent a day visiting various sites in the city including a toy train museum, a glass museum, the Artisan Center, a cathedral, a couple of restaurants, an abandoned castle, and a cemetery. I also strolled by Wheeling’s beautiful Heritage Port riverside park next to the Ohio River and crossed the unique pedestrian bridge. As if this were not enough, our AirB&B was located on a farm with a hill that offered amazing sunrise and sunset vistas.
It was a great and fun trip, and I am happy to share it with you in this video. I also hope to go back in the future, as there are other amazing places to visit in and around Wheeling.
