Florida coastal flooding is worsening as king tides, strong northeast winds, and coastal showers combine to push seawater into streets from Miami to Jacksonville. On Sunday, October 25, coastal flood warnings covered much of Florida’s Atlantic coast, with the highest tides still ahead. The full moon arrives Monday, while the highest predicted tide is expected Tuesday morning. In Miami, seawater flooded neighborhood streets beginning Friday, October 23. Broward County also saw water cover roads and parking lots, prompting some businesses along Hollywood Beach to place sandbags at their entrances. Farther north, St. Augustine faces renewed flooding concerns as unusually high tides push water over seawalls and into historic streets. In this video, we examine how astronomical high tides, northeast winds gusting near 40 mph, and incoming showers are worsening coastal flooding. We also cover the threat along the St. Johns River basin, forecast water levels of 2 to 3.5 feet above normally dry ground, dangerous surf and rip currents, and beach erosion from Miami northward. A gale warning remains in effect over the Atlantic, where a buoy 120 miles east of Cape Canaveral measured waves reaching 13.8 feet Sunday morning, with seas potentially building to 15 feet. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by midweek as winds ease, although coastal flooding and rough seas may persist. Global Weather covers natural disasters and extreme weather events as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
