Villajoyosa (La Vila Joiosa)

🇬🇧 Villajoyosa, Alicante Province, Spain. (October 2025). The name translates as "the joyful town." Part of the Valencian community is the historic and administrative capital of Marina Baixa region, and is located in the province of Alicante. The town is known locally simply as La Vila and is located 32 km from the city of Alicante, in the coastal area known as Costa Blanca (White Coast). It has over three kilometers of beaches, including the Platja Centre (Central Beach), close to the town centre. The river of La Vila (incorrectly also known as Amadòrio) runs through the town. The area is famous for its chocolate industry and tourism. One of the most popular tourist attractions is its Gothic Catholic church of the Assumption, with a Baroque altar piece. Another popular destination, the Royal Palm Casino (formerly Casino Costa Blanca), is reopened after major renovation. The town's festival of Moros i Cristians, celebrated at the end of July, was declared an International Tourist Interest Festival. Currently, this festivity commemorates a boat landing from the Berber pirates that was repelled by the population of the town. Situada en la Comunidad Valenciana y perteneciente a la provincia de Alicante, es la capital histórica y administrativa de la comarca de la Marina Baixa. La localidad es conocida localmente simplemente como "La Vila" y se encuentra a 32 km de la ciudad de Alicante, en la zona costera conocida como Costa Blanca. Cuenta con más de tres kilómetros de playas, incluida la Platja Centre (Playa Centro), situada cerca del casco urbano. El río de La Vila (también llamado erróneamente Amadòrio) atraviesa la localidad. La zona es famosa por su industria del chocolate y por el turismo. Una de las atracciones turísticas más populares es la iglesia católica gótica de la Asunción, que alberga un retablo barroco. Otro destino destacado es el Royal Palm Casino (anteriormente Casino Costa Blanca), que ha reabierto sus puertas tras una importante renovación. Las fiestas de Moros y Cristianos de la localidad, que se celebran a finales de julio, han sido declaradas de Interés Turístico Internacional. Actualmente, esta festividad conmemora el desembarco de piratas berberiscos que fue repelido por la población local.
