I love being able to forecast for New Mexico on the CBS News 24/7 National stream, but my heart breaks for the reason...flash flooding claimed three lives near the Four Corners area of the state, on Navajo Nation's land. We may be near the end of the monsoon, but it's packing a BIG punch.
And more flash flooding is likely tonight and tomorrow across the state. This is the time to avoid arroyos and ditches, because even if it's not raining where you are the water can still travel very quickly downstream...it only takes 6 inches of rushing water to knock a person down and carry them away, a foot of rushing water to pick up a car. The flash flooding threat will be lower Friday (but still there), before subsiding into the weekend.
Please stay safe out there my New Mexico friends!
