Can you actually know that Jesus Christ has forgiven you? And if salvation comes through Christ, why do Latter-day Saints place such emphasis on repentance, baptism, covenants, commandments, and temple ordinances? In this Faith & Reason | LDS Covenantal Apologetics episode, we revisit the powerful question raised in the 1974–75 Melchizedek Priesthood lesson “The Atonement of Jesus Christ: What Will the Atonement Do for You?” and examine it through the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and modern prophetic teaching. Read more from Faith & Reason | LDS Covenantal Apologetics: https://ldsfaithapologetics.blogspot.... We examine the unified saving mission of Jesus Christ through Gethsemane, Calvary, His death, and His glorious Resurrection, why humanity cannot overcome physical or spiritual death without a Redeemer, and why the Book of Mormon declares that redemption comes “in and through the Holy Messiah.” We also tackle one of the most common objections to Latter-day Saint theology: Do Latter-day Saints believe they earn salvation through works? The answer requires understanding the relationship between grace and covenant. Repentance does not replace Christ. Baptism does not replace Christ. Temple covenants do not replace Christ. Jesus Christ is the source of saving power, while covenant discipleship is the divinely appointed relationship through which we come unto Him and are transformed by His grace. We explore Enos, 2 Nephi 2 and 9, Mosiah 4–5, Alma 7, Doctrine and Covenants 19 and 58, Gethsemane, Calvary, the Resurrection, peace of conscience, repentance, sanctification, and the question of whether someone who has sincerely repented can truly know that God has forgiven them. The central message is simple: Grace is the source. Covenant is the relationship. Jesus Christ is the Redeemer.
