Not undefeated. Not unchanged. Uninterrupted.
The Ford Mustang wasn’t the first pony car. It wasn’t always the fastest, the most powerful or the most technically advanced. Ford didn’t always understand it perfectly either.
But while rivals disappeared, returned and disappeared again, the Mustang remained.
This Solren Drive documentary follows the Mustang from its extraordinary 1964 launch through the pony-car wars, Shelby and SCCA racing, the oil crisis, the controversial Mustang II, the Fox Body 5.0, the retro-inspired S197, the globally focused S550 and today’s S650 generation.
Along the way, we examine the Mustang’s battles with the Plymouth Barracuda, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird and Dodge Challenger—and ask what truly allowed Ford’s pony car to survive for more than six decades.
Was it the V8?
Horsepower?
Racing?
Heritage?
Technical superiority?
Or was the real answer present from the very beginning?
The Mustang survived because Ford kept changing the car without changing its promise: something ordinary people could own that did not make them feel ordinary.
