A wandering ronin sits beside a stone path gone soft with moss, his sword and hat set down, watching light come through cedars onto ground that is quietly taking everything back. This piece is inspired by "KUCHIBA" (朽葉) — fallen and fading leaves. Not rubbish, and not loss. Simply the colour a leaf becomes on its way to being soil again. Nothing on this forest floor is sorted, or graded, or thrown away. It is all just lying where it landed, and it is all still being used. Shakuhachi moves like air low to the ground, unhurried and close. Koto lands the way single leaves do — one, then none for a while, then another. Nothing here builds toward anything, because the ground is in no hurry to finish.
