Magnapinna - Bigfin squid. A rare sighting in the Tonga Trench!

Earlier this month, while exploring the Tonga Trench at 3,300 meters, researchers from ‪@deepseauwa‬ aboard our vessel RV Dagon captured footage of the elusive Magnapinna squid on our deep-sea lander cameras. Often called the ‘Bigfin squid’ or ‘Ghost squid’ this creature has incredibly long arms and tentacles, stretching up to 8 metres in length. It’s a rare and remarkable sight from the depths, and we’re excited to share it with you. Happy #squidtember!
