📏 பொருட்களை அளவுகோல் வைத்து அளத்தல் | 3rd Standard Maths | Measuring Objects Using a Ruler
How to measure the length of objects using a ruler? In this practical Tamil Maths learning video, children learn how to measure everyday objects using a ruler and read their measurements in centimetres (cm).
This video is based on the 3rd Standard Mathematics textbook lesson "அளந்து எழுதலாம்". Children can understand the measurement activity through a simple textbook-based explanation and a real-life demonstration.
Instead of just memorising the answers, children can watch and practise measuring objects themselves.
📚 WHAT WILL CHILDREN LEARN IN THIS VIDEO?
📏 What is a ruler (அளவுகோல்)?
📏 What is measurement (அளவிடுதல்)?
📏 How to identify numbers on a ruler.
📏 How to understand centimetre (cm).
📏 How to identify the small measurement lines.
📏 How to place an object correctly along a ruler.
📏 Why should we start measuring from zero?
📏 How to identify the endpoint of an object.
📏 How to read and write the length in centimetres.
📏 How to measure everyday objects independently.
✏️ PRACTICAL MEASUREMENT ACTIVITY
In this video, we demonstrate how to measure a real object using a ruler.
Children can practise measuring:
1. Pencil
2. Pen
3. Eraser
4. Sharpener
5. Notebook
6. Textbook
7. Other small objects available at home.
📐 HOW TO MEASURE AN OBJECT USING A RULER?
Follow these simple steps:
STEP 1: Take a ruler and an object that you want to measure.
STEP 2: Place the ruler beside the object.
STEP 3: Align one end of the object with the zero (0) mark on the ruler.
STEP 4: Look at the number where the other end of the object reaches.
STEP 5: Read and write the measurement in centimetres (cm).
Example:
If an object starts at 0 cm and ends at 10 cm, its length is 10 cm.
Remember: If the object does not start at zero, subtract the starting reading from the ending reading.
🏠 HOME PRACTICE FOR CHILDREN
Dear parents, after watching this video, give your child a ruler and ask them to measure five objects at home.
Ask your child to complete this simple activity:
• Measure a pencil.
• Measure an eraser.
• Measure a pen.
• Measure a notebook.
• Measure a textbook.
Ask them to write the name of each object and its length in centimetres.
This hands-on practice helps children connect classroom mathematics with everyday life.
🧠 QUICK LEARNING QUESTIONS
1. What is used to measure the length of an object?
2. What does cm stand for?
3. Where should we place the beginning of an object when measuring from zero?
4. How do we find the length of an object?
5. Can you measure your pencil without anyone's help?
👨👩👧 FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS
This video is useful for parents who want to help their children understand basic mathematics through practical learning.
Children learn better when they see, touch, practise and discover things themselves. Give them opportunities to use a ruler and measure different objects instead of only copying textbook answers.
This activity supports:
✔ Basic Mathematics Skills
✔ Measurement and Length Concepts
✔ Ruler Reading Skills
✔ Practical Learning
✔ Observation Skills
✔ Independent Learning
