A patient experiences an asthma attack shortly before a routine dental appointment in this dramatised medical emergency training scenario. The patient's asthma has been triggered by exposure to a cat while travelling to the practice, and she has arrived without her usual reliever inhaler. The dental team assess the severity of her breathing difficulties and monitor her condition while helping her use an emergency reliever inhaler with a spacer. The scenario demonstrates areas including: • recognising the signs of an asthma attack • assessing respiratory rate and pulse • checking oxygen saturation • measuring peak expiratory flow • using a reliever inhaler with a spacer • monitoring the patient's response to treatment • reassuring an anxious patient • recording observations and communicating as a team As her breathing improves, the team continue to monitor her respiratory rate, pulse, oxygen saturation and peak flow before confirming that she is recovering. This film was originally produced as part of a series of medical emergency training scenarios for UK dental practices. 🎬 Filmed and edited by Mark Smith / Leeds Media Services I ran Leeds Media Services for 17 years, producing films for universities, healthcare organisations, research projects, businesses and other clients across the UK.
