Using footage from the large Amerivespa group ride in Chicago and a smaller Gem City Rollers ride to Fort Ancient, Ohio, I compare two very different group-riding experiences. We’ll talk about preparing your scooter, understanding the route, riding with a leader and sweep, maintaining proper spacing, and what to do if the group becomes separated. Most importantly, we’ll discuss why you should always ride your own ride. Never enter an intersection, make a lane change, or take a curve simply because the rider ahead of you did. A successful group ride should be enjoyable—not a reason to ride beyond your comfort or skill level.
