We Completely Transformed This Tired Foundation Garden 🌿

We’re taking on a garden makeover — but this time, it’s not at our house! 🌿 Our friends had a tired, overgrown foundation garden bed that just wasn’t working anymore, so we completely reimagined the space with a colorful, low-maintenance garden designed for part shade. We’re taking you through the entire transformation from start to finish: removing the old landscaping, laying out the new design, choosing trees, shrubs, hydrangeas and perennials, planting everything, and installing a complete drip irrigation system to make caring for the new garden as easy as possible. Along the way, we’re sharing why we chose each plant, how we created structure and repetition in the bed, and how we balanced evergreen structure with colorful foliage and flowers throughout the growing season. The finished garden includes Sprinter® boxwoods, a Metamorphosa Japanese maple, hydrangeas, inkberry holly, sweet box, Kodiak® diervilla, Brunnera, coral bells, pulmonaria, Japanese anemones and more. We also walk through our drip irrigation setup step-by-step, including how we give newly planted trees and hydrangeas some extra water while still creating even moisture throughout the entire bed.
