Knowing that the Bible calls you to submission is one thing. Living it out when your husband is stubborn, harsh, difficult, unresponsive or challenging is another thing entirely.
In Part 2 of this final episode, we move from the spiritual foundation of submission to the practical side.
How should you think?
How should you speak?
How should you act?
And how do you maintain a godly marriage without becoming difficult yourself?
In this episode, I share practical biblical principles for dealing with a difficult husband through three important areas:
1. YOUR THOUGHTS
The battle begins in the heart.
We examine the importance of guarding your heart, being intentional about what you allow into your mind, and being careful about the voices, conversations, friendships and content that influence how you see your husband and your marriage.
2. YOUR WORDS
Your words can build or destroy.
We look at the power of speaking life, being slow to speak and slow to anger, listening carefully, responding with wisdom and using gentle words rather than harshness.
If your husband is already difficult, adding another difficult person to the relationship will not solve the problem.
3. YOUR ACTIONS
Submission must eventually produce action.
We discuss prayer, treating your husband with honour, intentionally learning how to serve him, evaluating your relationship honestly, communicating your needs wisely and consistently living a godly life.
We also discuss the importance of getting help.
Some marital situations involve addiction, infidelity, destructive behaviour or problems that a wife should not attempt to handle alone. Knowing when to seek wise, godly and appropriate help is not weakness. It is wisdom.
And importantly, biblical submission does not mean submitting to abuse, criminal behaviour, danger or sin. There are boundaries, and I addressed those boundaries in the earlier parts of this series.
