പാകിസ്ഥാന്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ ഉള്ള ശത്രുരാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള ഭീഷണികളെ നേരിടുമ്പോള്‍ വിദേശ ആയുധ സംവിധാനങ്ങളെ പരമാവധി ആശ്രയിക്കാതിരിക്കുക എന്ന ദീര്‍ഘകാല ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്ക് ഇന്ത്യ കൂടുതല്‍ അടുക്കുക ആണ്. രാജ്യത്ത് തന്നെ വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്ന മിസൈലുകള്‍ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വ്യോമസേനയുടെ പ്രധാന യുദ്ധവിമാനങ്ങളും ആയി സംയോജിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് ഉള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങളാണ് ഇതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതില്‍ ഏറ്റവും ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ നീക്കങ്ങളിലൊന്ന് ഫ്രാന്‍സില്‍ നിര്‍മിച്ച റഫാല്‍ യുദ്ധ വിമാനങ്ങളില്‍ ഇന്ത്യ തദ്ദേശീയമായി വികസിപ്പിച്ച അസ്ത്ര ബിയോണ്ട് വിഷ്വല്‍ റേഞ്ച് മിസൈലുകള്‍ ഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള സങ്കേതിക സാധ്യതകള്‍ പരിശോധിക്കുന്നതാണ്. അസ്ത്ര മിസൈലുകളെ റഫാല്‍ യുദ്ധവിമാനവും ആയി വിജയകരമായി സംയോജിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍, ഇന്ത്യയുടെ വ്യോമപ്രതിരോധ ശേഷിക്കും പ്രതിരോധ മേഖലയിലെ സ്വയംപര്യാപ്തതയ്ക്കും വലിയ മുന്നേറ്റമാകും. വിദേശ ആയുധ സംവിധാനങ്ങളും ആയുള്ള ആശ്രിതത്വം കുറയ്ക്കുന്നതിനൊപ്പം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ തദ്ദേശീയ മിസൈല്‍ സങ്കേതിക വിദ്യയ്ക്ക് അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിപണിയിലും കൂടുതല്‍ സാധ്യതകള്‍ തുറക്കാന്‍ ഇതിലൂടെ കഴിയും. ഇന്ത്യ തദ്ദേശീയമായി വികസിപ്പിച്ച വായുവില്‍ നിന്ന് വായുവിലേക്ക് പ്രയോഗിക്കുന്ന മിസൈല്‍ സംവിധാനമാണ് അസ്ത്ര. India is moving closer to its long-term goal of reducing dependence on foreign weapon systems by expanding the use of indigenous defence technologies.
