When I first started freelancing about 100 years ago, I was charging $35 an hour, regularly squeezing three hours of work into one, and saying yes to things I really didn't want to do. And then wondering why I was so frustrated. Looking back, some of those clients were absolutely pushing boundaries. But I also had to recognize how much of my frustration came from the things I wasn't saying. There were expectations I hadn't communicated, conversations I was avoiding, and lots of little accommodations I was making because I didn't want to risk the relationship.
