How do software teams choose the right way of working, the right tools, and check their system actually works once it is live? This video explains software development techniques including Waterfall, Agile, Scrum and hybrid approaches, and evaluates development tools such as IDEs, version control and CI/CD pipelines. It covers software testing methodologies including unit, integration, system and acceptance testing, black-box and white-box testing, and regression testing, with the testing pyramid and the TSB Bank 2018 IT migration as a real case study. It explains deployment techniques including on-premise, cloud, containerisation and staged deployment, using the CrowdStrike 2024 outage to show why staged rollouts matter. Finally it covers methods of reviewing system performance, including focus groups, user feedback, post-release testing and formal reviews. This session is for OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Information Technology learners, HNC and first-year degree computing students, and anyone preparing for the Unit 2 Task 1 assignment.
